Learn to Detect Elusive Wildlife during Naturalist-Led Hike

Natural Areas Discovery Series open to all

WEST UNION, OHIO - Learn more about Ohio's wildlife during the next Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Natural Areas Discovery Series event. Visitors of all ages are invited to discover how to identify native mammals at Chaparral Prairie State Nature Preserve on Saturday, May 30 at 1 p.m.

This free program, held rain or shine, will teach participants to search for tracks and other animals signs, as well as share the art of plaster-casting footprints. The short naturalist-led hike, suitable for all ages, will allow participants to use their new skills to investigate the clues left behind by southern Ohio's more mysterious critters.

Chaparral Prairie is an outstanding example of a cedar barren prairie complete with a variety of common and rare wildflowers and butterflies. The Adams County preserve is located at 209 Hawk Hill Road in West Union. GPS coordinates are N38°50.422' W083°34.427'. To learn more about this program, contact 937-544-9750.

Sponsored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, the Natural Areas Discovery Series features guided hikes, interpretive activities and outdoor programs. The next events will be held on Saturday, June 6 at Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve in Greene County and Tinker's Creek State Nature Preserve in Portage County.
