Clifton Gorge Hosts NatureCache Event
Outdoor series sponsored by Gander Mountain and ODNR
COLUMBUS, OH - NatureCache is coming to Greene County. This new series combines naturalist-led interpretive hikes with global positioning system (GPS) technology. The next NatureCache hike is scheduled for Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve on Saturday, June 6 at 10 a.m.
The 268-acre Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve protects one of the most spectacular gorges in the state as well as stunning views of the Little Miami State and National Scenic River. Armed with demonstration GPS units, visitors will learn some of the preserve's natural and historical tales. An easy hike, suitable for the entire family, is a perfect complement to Earthcache, a virtual geocaching activity encouraged at a number of Ohio state nature preserves.
NatureCache 2009 is sponsored by Gander Mountain Company, the nation's largest retail network of stores for hunting, fishing, camping, boating, marine and outdoor lifestyle products and services, in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' (ODNR) Division of Natural Areas and Preserves.
Upcoming NatureCache events include: Conkle's Hollow in Hocking County on July 18, Sheldon Marsh in Erie County on September 26 and Lawrence Woods in Hardin County on October 3.
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged but not required. All pre-registered participants (over the age of 18) will be entered into a prize drawing (for two Garmin GPS units), compliments of Gander Mountain. For more information about NatureCache 2009 or to register, visit www.ohiodnr.com/dnap and click on Discovery Series, or call your local Gander Mountain store.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
