Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Sponsors Awards at 61st Annual State Science Day
COLUMBUS, OH - Over 1,000 7th - 12th grade science, technology, engineering, and mathematics students representing nearly 300 Ohio schools exhibited science research projects at the 61st Annual State Science Day. Held at The Ohio State University in Columbus on May 9, the event honored students with nearly 100 scholarships and awards valued at more than $2.5 million.
Sponsored by The Ohio Academy of Science, American Electric Power, The Ohio Environmental Education Fund, and Boehringer Ingelheim Roxane, Inc., and hosted by The Ohio State University Office of Continuing Education, State Science Day is the academic equivalent of a state athletic championship and the top tier of one of the largest education programs in the nation. Judges evaluate the scientific research and communication skills of student participants who advanced to the state-level competition from more than 16 district science days.
Among the many awards at State Science Day is the Soil and Water Conservation Award sponsored by the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (OFSWCD). This year, the first place award in the 7-9 grade category went to Mary L. Murray from St. Mary in Delaware County and the second place award was presented to Trevor C. Chopko from St. Vincent St. Mary in Summit County. In the 10-12 grade category, the OFSWCD awarded Traven W. Towns from Hilltop High School in Williams County with the first place award and Rowan L. Baird from Paint Valley High School in Ross County received the second place award.
