ECOLOGY HIKE AT STAGE'S POND STATE NATURE PRESERVE

Event part of the family-friendly Natural Areas Discovery Series

COLUMBUS, OHIO - Visitors are invited to join an ecology hike at Stage's Pond State Nature Preserve, part of the Natural Areas Discovery Series, on Sunday, June 14 at 2 p.m. in Pickaway County.

A healthy ecosystem is key to healthy wildlife and plant communities.  This naturalist-led hike, suitable for the entire family, will focus on the high quality wetland and upland habitats found at this 178-acre state nature preserve in central Ohio.

Stage's Pond is best known as an excellent birding site. The wetlands complex attracts a wide range of migratory waterfowl as well as a number of uncommon species. The preserve is located on 4792 Hagerty Road in Ashville. For more information, call (740) 380-8919.

The Natural Areas Discovery Series features guided hikes, interpretive activities and outdoor programs. The next event will be held on June 20 at Headlands Dunes State Nature Preserve in Lake County. Children who hike with their families during the special events and throughout the year can receive credit towards the ODNR Explore the Outdoors Hike a Trail activity. Explore the Outdoors is a hands-on family program that gives Ohio children the opportunity to reunite with nature, improve their physical and emotional health and discover the rewards of becoming environmental stewards. Program information and downloadable activity guides can be found at www.exploretheoutdoorsohio.com.
