Ohio Lake Erie Commission to Hold Quarterly Meeting
 

TOLEDO, OH - The Ohio Lake Erie Commission (OLEC) will hold its quarterly meeting on September 28 at 10 a.m. at the University of Toledo’s Lake Erie Center in Oregon, Ohio.
 
During the meeting, Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Director Sean Logan will announce the 13 winning images of the 2009 “Life on Lake Erie” Photo Contest and present the 2009 Ohio Lake Erie Awards, recognizing a dedicated individual and an outstanding organization that have made outstanding contributions to enhance Lake Erie and its watershed.  
 
Ohio Lake Erie Commission Executive Director Ed Hammett will introduce the Chagrin River Watershed Balanced Growth Plan and Swan Creek Watershed Balanced Growth Plan and recommend the plans for commission endorsement.
 
Commission members are expected to approve three small grant projects for the first quarter of FY 2010.
 
Dr. Thomas Bridgeman, University of Toledo’s Lake Erie Center, will provide an update regarding the algal bloom on Lake Erie, which will be followed by a report from Hammett on the Great Lake Restoration Initiative.
 
All meetings of the OLEC are open to the public and include a public comment period. Organizations and citizens are encouraged to attend this meeting and provide input on issues of concern.
 
The Ohio Lake Erie Commission was established for the purpose of preserving Lake Erie's natural resources, protecting the quality of its waters and ecosystem, and promoting economic development in the region. The director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources serves as the commission's chairman. Additional members include the directors of the state departments of Transportation, Health, Development, Agriculture and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
