Event part of the Natural Areas Discovery Series
COLUMBUS, OH – Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve will join the local Old Clifton Days celebration by hosting an Open House on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27. Visitors may choose from either a 10 a.m. or 3 p.m. hike each day.
The 268-acre Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve protects one of the most spectacular gorges in the state as well as stunning views of the Little Miami State and National Scenic River. Naturalist-led hikes will focus on some of the preserve’s most interesting legends and tales. These easy hikes are suitable for the entire family.
Located a ¼ mile west of Clifton on State Route 343, Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve boasts 4 miles of hiking trails as well as interpretive signage and several parking areas. To learn more, contact the preserve office at 937-767-7947.
Children who hike with their families during the special event and throughout the year can receive credit towards the ODNR Explore the Outdoors Hike a Trail activity. Explore the Outdoors is a hands-on family program that gives Ohio children the opportunity to reunite with nature, improve their physical and emotional health and discover the rewards of becoming environmental stewards. Program information and downloadable activity guides can be found at www.exploretheoutdoorsohio.com.
Sponsored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, the Natural Areas Discovery Series features scheduled hikes, interpretive activities and an opportunity for visitors to meet preserve staff. Programs are held from April to October. The next events will be held on October 3 at Lawrence Woods in Hardin County and Conkle’s Hollow in Hocking County.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
