Ohio Division of Forestry Seeks Input in Developing a Statewide Forest Resource Assessment

COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry is conducting a statewide assessment of Ohio’s valuable ecological and economic forest resources, and wants your help. Public input is being requested on the key issues, threats and opportunities associated with Ohio’s woodland resources including forests on public and private lands, and urban and rural areas.

The Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008 requires each state to develop a forest resource assessment document. Results from this assessment will be used to develop directions and actions that the Ohio Division of Forestry, together with its partners, will take to promote and achieve sustainable use and protection of Ohio’s woodlands.

Details about the Forest Resource Assessment and Strategy and a downloadable stakeholder survey can be found on the division’s website at www.ohiodnr.com/forestry . You may request a written copy to be mailed to you by contacting Project Forester Cotton Randall at (614) 265-6667 or by emailing cotton.randall@dnr.state.oh.us. Comments and completed surveys will be accepted until January 15, 2010.

The website contains information about five upcoming regional stakeholder meetings which will provide for additional public input. Please RSVP to Cotton Randall if you plan to attend any of the following meetings:
