12/14/09 Jason Latchic, of Akron, has been named the 2009 Ohio Watercraft Officer of the Year.
Akron Resident Honored As Watercraft Officer Of the Year By ODNR Division of Watercraft
COLUMBUS – Jason Latchic, of Akron, has been named the 2009 Ohio Watercraft Officer of the Year by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft.
Latchic, an Ohio Watercraft officer assigned to the division’s Akron area office, was recognized for his exemplary work as an Ohio Watercraft officer patrolling various inland waterways in northeast Ohio and assisting local community organizations in support of their boating safety education programs.
He attained his Ohio Peace Officer commission in 2001 and then joined the Division of Watercraft as an officer working from the division’s Springfield area office. Latchic is a graduate of Gahanna Lincoln High School and Hocking College where he earned an associate’s degree in recreation and wildlife management.
The ODNR Division of Watercraft administers Ohio’s recreational boating programs, including watercraft registration and titling services, and provides grants to local communities for enforcement, education and boating access facilities. Division of Watercraft programs are funded by a share of the state motor fuels tax, boating registration and titling fees and a grant from the U.S. Coast Guard.
