ODNR Helps Create Jobs in Recycling Industry
COLUMBUS, OH – Strengthening Ohio’s recycling industry, creating jobs and increasing local markets for recycled materials are benefits of the Market Development Grant program, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
Private-public partnerships in nine communities will receive ODNR Market Development Grants to help create the infrastructure necessary for successful markets of recyclable material and related products. Grants will be used for a variety of purposes, such as purchasing equipment, product manufacturing, material processing and recovery or facility expansion. A number of the funded projects will translate into the creation of new jobs.
“These projects represent a great boost for our environment and a highly efficient use of public dollars,” said ODNR Director Sean Logan. “They create jobs, attract and support new business and technology, redirect valuable materials out of the waste stream.”
Ohio counties, solid waste management districts/authorities, municipalities and other local governments and businesses are eligible for these grants. A match of at least 100 percent of the grant amount is required.
The ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention is responsible for implementing statewide waste reduction, recycling, recycling market development and litter prevention programs. The division encourages Ohioans to reduce waste, recycle materials and buy recycled-content products. For more information, visit www.ohiodnr.com/recycling.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
