Top Ohio State Parks Professional Recognized
COLUMBUS, OH – Scott Fletcher, the Operations, Training and Safety Manager for Ohio State Parks, has been named Ohio State Parks Professional of the Year for 2009, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
Fletcher is the first recipient of this new statewide award to recognize outstanding contributions to the organization, as well as the citizens of Ohio. Since assuming his current management position in the central office headquarters in 2005, Fletcher has developed a customer service training program for Ohio State Parks’ field employees, and organized academies for maintenance employees and aspiring managers. Fletcher also coordinated Ohio State Parks’ participation in the Recovery Conservation Corps, a youth jobs program modeled after the historic Civilian Conservation Corps and financed through federal stimulus dollars.
“Scott Fletcher is an extremely competent and dedicated professional with a ‘can do’ attitude,” said Ohio State Parks acting chief John Hunter. “His diverse skills and varied background are a tremendous asset to our state park system.”
A former park naturalist, Fletcher now provides statewide management of the Ohio State Parks interpretive program. Fletcher also oversees beach sampling and lake water quality programs as well as complicated water supply and wastewater treatment issues in the parks.
Fletcher is a 20-year veteran of the Ohio State Park system, having served previously as park manager at John Bryan and Beaver Creek state parks, and as assistant manager and naturalist at Malabar Farm State Park.
Ohio’s 74 state parks encompass nine resort lodges, six golf courses, more than 500 cottages and 56 family campgrounds with more than 9,000 campsites.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR Web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
