Ohio Division of Forestry Seeks Public Input on
Statewide Forest Resource Assessment and Strategy
COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Forestry has completed drafts of its Statewide Forest Resource Assessment and Strategy. The public is invited to review the draft documents and provide comments.
The Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008 requires each state to develop a forest resource assessment and strategy to maintain eligibility for various federal funding sources.
“This assessment provides a comprehensive evaluation of forest-related resources in Ohio,” said David Lytle, state forester and chief of the ODNR Division of Forestry. “The document identifies Ohio’s high priority forest areas and the key issues and threats to forests statewide. The Division of Forestry is eager to make use of this information to help guide our care of Ohio’s renewable natural forest resource, and we hope that it is useful for all our partners working to conserve Ohio’s forests.”
The statewide strategy document describes key forest issues and outlines specific strategies that the Ohio Division of Forestry and partners will use to address them. The strategy also supports the division’s mission of promoting and applying management for the sustainable use and protection of Ohio’s private and public forest land.
Details about the Forest Resource Assessment and Strategy and downloadable draft documents can be found on the division’s Web site at www.ohiodnr.com/forestry. You may request written copies by contacting Project Coordinator Cotton Randall at (614) 265-6667 or by emailing cotton.randall@dnr.state.oh.us. Written comments may also be mailed to ODNR Division of Forestry, 2045 Morse Road, Building H-1, Columbus, OH 43229-6693. Comments will be accepted through May 23, 2010.
