Mercer County Resident Named To Ohio Soil and Water Commission

 
COLUMBUS, OH – William R. Knapke, of Fort Recovery, was recently appointed by Governor Ted Strickland to serve a four-year term on the Ohio Soil and Water Commission, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Soil and Water Resources.
 
The owner of a Mercer County farm, Knapke raises chickens and tilapia, as well as corn and soybeans. He is also works for Cooper Farms, where is he is responsible for the environmental management of its poultry and swine operations.
 
Knapke has been a strong advocate of nutrient management planning, both within his company and with contract producers. For example, Cooper Farms was one of the first companies in Ohio to require their swine producers to have nutrient management plans.
 
He is heavily active in a number of conservation groups. Knapke is serving his seventh year as president of  Mercer County Pheasants Forever. He is a former board member of the Wabash Watershed Alliance and works regularly with  local soil and water conservation districts.
 
Highly respected in both the agricultural and conservation communities, Knapke holds a bachelor’s degree of science in fisheries management from The Ohio State University.
