Feedback is being solicited on Ohio’s Draft Assessment and Multi-year Strategy 2011-2015 Plan for the Section 309 Coastal Zone Enhancement Grants Program.
Public Invited to Comment on Draft Multi-year Plan for Section 309 Coastal Zone Enhancement Grants Program
Once approved 2011-2015 Plan will allow Ohio to receive federal funding
Sandusky, OH – Feedback is being solicited on Ohio’s Draft Assessment and Multi-year Strategy 2011-2015 Plan for the Section 309 Coastal Zone Enhancement Grants Program. The program is administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Office of Coastal Management in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as part of the federally approved Ohio Coastal Management Program.
In accordance with Section 309 of the federal Coastal Zone Management Act, every five years Ohio is required to assess its coastal management program in nine enhancement areas and update its Coastal Zone Enhancement Grants Program plan. The assessment is based on the status of Ohio’s Lake Erie and coastal resources, and existing authorities and programs to address concerns. The plan’s strategies identify program changes and implementation activities needed to achieve resource improvement objectives identified in the plan.
Ohio’s current plan covers 2006-2010. The plan must be updated and changes approved by NOAA for Ohio to continue to be eligible to receive federal funding to develop and implement changes to the Ohio Coastal Management Program.
The draft 2011-2015 plan identifies four strategies that address the following six enhancement areas: wetlands, coastal hazards, public access, cumulative and secondary impacts, Great Lakes resources, and energy and government facility siting.
The public is invited to comment on the draft plan. Comments must be postmarked or emailed by September 17 and sent to yetty.alley@dnr.state.oh.us or to the attention of Yetty Alley at the ODNR Office of Coastal Management, 105 West Shoreline Drive, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
The draft plan can be obtained by contacting the Office of Coastal Management at 1-888-OHIOCMP or downloaded by selecting the “Provide Plan Feedback: Section 309 Grants 2011-2015” logo at www.ohiodnr.com/coastal.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR Web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
