Lake Erie Coastal Management Assistance Grants Available
Balanced Growth and sustainable development plans are priority
SANDUSKY, OH – Applications for at least $250,000 in grants are being accepted for projects that preserve, protect and enhance Ohio's Lake Erie coastal resources, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Office of Coastal Management.
Coastal Management Assistance Grants are available to communities, local governments, non-profit organizations, state agencies, planning commissions and educational institutions. Funding priorities for this round of grants will focus on the development of watershed balanced growth plans in coordination with the Ohio Lake Erie Commission and the implementation of coastal nonpoint management measures of state-endorsed watershed action plans. Priority will also be given to education and outreach projects that address coastal issues related to sustainable development.
Applicants must provide at least 50 percent of the project's total funding. Applications and guidelines for the Coastal Management Assistance Grants program are available on the "Grants" link at www.ohiodnr.com/coastal or by contacting the Office of Coastal Management at 419-626-7980. Grant applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday November 19. The grants, which are awarded on a competitive basis, will be announced in the spring of 2011.
The Office of Coastal Management dedicates a portion of its federal National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration funding to the Coastal Management Assistance Grant program. ODNR has awarded more than $3.2 million in Coastal Management Assistance Grants since the Ohio Coastal Management Program began in 1997. A list of all previous grant awards is available online by selecting the “Grants” link at www.ohiodnr.com/coastal.
The 2010 grant application workshops will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on October 12 at the Oak Harbor Library (147 West Main Street, Oak Harbor) and October 14 at the ODNR Division of Watercraft office in Cleveland (1150 E 49th Street). Participants will have the opportunity to learn about more than 10 grant programs, meet the grant administrators and ask questions.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources seeks to ensure a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
