LAKE ERIE FISHING REGULATORY REFORM TASK FORCE TO MEET IN HURON ON MONDAY

COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Lake Erie fishing Regulatory Reform Task Force will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, October 29 in the East Lounge of the Bowling Green State University Firelands Campus, 1 University Drive, Huron.

Topics slated for discussion are proposed revision of the commercial fishing quota allocation system for yellow perch and devices for monitoring commercial fishing vessels and reporting the catch of those vessels electronically.

The task force is made up of 15 members representing Lake Erie sport and commercial fishing interests, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, fish wholesalers, charter boat operators, academic institutions, the Ohio General Assembly and the office of Governor Ted Strickland.

Senate Bill 77, signed into law by the governor in July, charged the task force with recommending statutory rulemaking and regulatory changes to Ohio’s commercial fishing laws. The task force must submit its findings and report to the Ohio General Assembly no later than December 31.
