Wildlife Education Coordinator Jen Dennison has been awarded the Project Learning Tree Bill Schultz Natural Resources Award.
COLUMBUS, OH – Wildlife Education Coordinator Jen Dennison, a resident of Madison County, has been awarded the Project Learning Tree Bill Schultz Natural Resources Award, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. The award recognizes commitment by a natural resources professional to conservation education and Project Learning Tree (PLT) through professional and/or volunteer efforts.
Dennison, now in her eleventh year as state coordinator for the Project WILD education program, was recently recognized at the Project Learning Tree – Ohio’s 30th Anniversary Workshop and Awards Recognition held at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
Dennison represents ODNR on the Environmental Education Council of Ohio and is a key contributor to the development of the Ohio Environmental Literacy Plan. Additionally, she is on the Ohio Environmental Education Certification advisory council and will be leading future training sessions for this program in the coming year.
Dennison is a strong believer in collaboration through partnerships. This has included the first-ever joint PLT, Project WILD and Project WET leadership workshop held at Burr Oak five years ago. She has served as project director for two Ohio Environmental Education Fund grant-funded projects to develop a correlation database for ODNR: www.dnr.state.oh.us/education/correlations. Educators can use this database to see how the ODNR-sponsored environmental education projects, such as Project WILD, PLT and Project WET, can help them address the state education standards with their students.
“Jen is an advocate of quality education including PLT, she is an excellent communicator, and an awesome leader and team member, who has only just begun to make a tremendous difference in the future of conservation education in Ohio and nationwide,” said Sue Wintering, Ohio PLT coordinator for ODNR’s Division of Forestry.
The Bill Schultz Natural Resource Award was named to honor Bill Schultz, former information and education administrator for the Division of Forestry and the first ODNR coordinator for PLT.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR Web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
