Walter Hodgkiss, of Port Clinton, has been named the 2010 Ohio Watercraft Officer of the Year by the ODNR, Division of Watercraft.
COLUMBUS– Walter Hodgkiss, of Port Clinton, has been named the 2010 Ohio Watercraft Officer of the Year by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Watercraft.
Hodgkiss, an Ohio watercraft officer assigned to the division’s Sandusky area office, was recognized for his exemplary work as an Ohio watercraft officer patrolling Lake Erie and other northwest Ohio waterways, and assisting local community organization in support of their boating safety education programs. He also was honored for his work with the division’s “Get On Board With A Sober Boater” alcohol awareness safety campaign.
He joined the Division of Watercraft in 2007 as a watercraft officer cadet. He is a former U.S. Coast Guard boatswain’s mate 3rd class petty officer assigned to Fairport Harbor.
Hodgkiss, formerly of Southington, is a graduate of Hocking College and West Virginia University where he attained a bachelor of science degree in wildlife and fisheries resources.
The ODNR Division of Watercraft administers Ohio’s boating programs. The agency oversees watercraft registration and titling operations, provides funding to local communities for education, enforcement and boating access facilities, educates the public, and enforces boating laws on Ohio’s waterways.
