COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Director David Mustine announced today the appointment of Robert L. Boyles to Chief of the Division of Forestry. Boyles has been serving as Acting Chief since January 10.

Boyles will be responsible for overseeing the management of Ohio’s 21 state forests and programs related to forestry stewardship, forest health and products, sustainable management and public outreach.

“A much-respected and honored Ohio forester, Bob Boyles has earned his place as chief of the Division of Forestry,” said Director Mustine. “His firsthand knowledge of Ohio’s forestry field operations and professional skills will serve to further the department’s land management successes.”

An ODNR career employee of 28 years, Boyles has worked in the Division of Forestry since 1989. Since 2002, he has served as the Southern District Forest Manager, responsible for supervising 50 employees and managing 13 state forests. Prior to that, Boyles served 10 years as the Assistant District Forester in the Athens and Chillicothe districts.

Before moving to the Division of Forestry, Boyles was a natural resource coordinator for the department’s Reclamation program in northeast Ohio from 1983 to 1989.

Boyles earned both a Master of Science degree and bachelor’s degree in Forest Resource Management from the West Virginia University.
