The Coastal Resources Advisory Council will hold its quarterly meeting on Thursday, May 5.

Archaeological Director at the Peachman Lake Erie Shipwreck Center named to council position

SANDUSKY, OH - The Coastal Resources Advisory Council will hold its quarterly meeting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, at the University of Toledo's Lake Erie Center, which is located at 6200 Bayshore Road, Oregon.

The council is comprised of 19 members appointed by the director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). The council’s mission is provide advice to ODNR on Lake Erie coastal management issues and the Ohio Coastal Management Program in order to promote, protect, enhance and encourage the wise use of Lake Erie’s coastal resources and its watershed.

Joining the council is Carrie Sowden, a Cuyahoga County resident who is the Archaeological Director at the Peachman Lake Erie Shipwreck Research Center (PLESRC) which is located on the grounds of the Great Lakes Historical Society behind the Inland Seas Maritime Museum in Vermilion. Ms. Sowden is also the MAST Coordinator. MAST stands for the Maritime Archaeological Survey Team, Inc., a nonprofit group dedicated to the documentation of Ohio's underwater historic resources.

There are two vacant seats on the council. To fulfill requirements of the Ohio Revised Code §1506.12, the council needs a representative from each of the eight counties located along Lake Erie. Currently the Sandusky County representation is vacant.

The council meets quarterly at locations along Lake Erie, offering an opportunity for the public to see and hear about important lake-related topics, as well as offer their ideas and concerns relative to lake issues.
