More than $11.7 million is being awarded this year to 25 states, including Ohio, under the Clean Vessel Act (CVA) grant program.
COLUMBUS, OH – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced that more than $11.7 million is being awarded this year to 25 states, including Ohio, under the Clean Vessel Act (CVA) grant program, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Watercraft.

A CVA grant award of $412,748 is coming to the Division of Watercraft which plans to update the statewide comprehensive facilities database and to increase public awareness regarding the location and importance of use of marine pumpout stations by recreational boaters. Additionally, the grant award will be shared among local eligible applicants and used to install new pumpouts or floating restrooms at Rocky Fork State Park in Highland County, West Branch State Park in Portage County, Mosquito Creek Lake State Park in Trumbull County, Caesar Creek Lake State Park in Warren County, Piedmont Lake Marina in Belmont County and Seaway Marina in Erie County.

Since the program was created in the early 1990s, more than $175 million has been awarded to states to install thousands of sewage pumpout stations. Since 1999, the ODNR Division of Watercraft has used CVA funding to construct and install more than 100 sewage pumpout facilities across Ohio. Information on how to apply to the Division of Watercraft for a Clean Vessel Act grant is available online at www.ohiodnr.com/watercraft.

“Clean Vessel Act grants have a substantial economic impact on local communities and help support recreational boating activities that depend upon clean water for a healthy environment,” said Rowan Gould, acting director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Eligible CVA grant activities include the construction and renovation of marine pump-out and sanitary dump stations, including floating restrooms or other structures that are not connected to land. In 2010, locally completed CVA projects totaling $165,913 included Zanes Landing on the Muskingum River in southeast Ohio, Hidden Harbor Marina and Wildwood Marina State Park along Lake Erie in northwest Ohio.
