The ODNR will help more than two dozen communities and organizations make an environmental impact as Ohioans strengthen local recycling and litter prevention efforts.
COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will help more than two dozen communities and organizations make an environmental impact as Ohioans strengthen local recycling and litter prevention efforts through the Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention Community Development Grant Program.

ODNR is funding twenty-seven projects that will be implemented by fourteen solid waste districts, eight municipalities, three state funded or affiliated organizations, three state agencies and two colleges/universities. The grant projects include:
  • development of new glass collection systems
  • equipment for expanding Habitat for Humanity deconstruction opportunities
  • construction of surveillance cameras to address continued illegal dumping
  • modernization of two publicly owned and operated material recovery facilities
  • expansion of two new urban based curbside recycling programs
  • expansion of drop-off recycling sites
  • assistance for special venue recycling efforts
  • cardboard baling equipment for two correctional institutes and the Ohio Department of Mental Health equipment will allow the state agencies to expand the amount of material recycled at their designated facilities, which operate on a 24/7 schedule
  • permanent drop-off outlet for pharmaceutical waste

“Recycling saves energy, conserves our natural resources, and extends the life of a landfill all while creating jobs,” said ODNR Director David Mustine. “It is part of a comprehensive waste and resource reduction strategy that benefits our natural world and our economy. Recycling and recycled products are growing industries and by recycling Ohioans can play a role in creating ‘green’ jobs.”

Ohio counties, solid waste management districts/authorities, municipalities and other local governments are eligible for grants. Grant communities are required to commit local matching funds toward their project.

The ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention is responsible for implementing statewide waste reduction, recycling, recycling market development and litter prevention programs.  The division encourages Ohioans to reduce waste, recycle materials and buy recycled-content products.  For more information, visit www.ohiodnr.com/recycling.

ODNR ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR Web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
