ODNR, through its Scrap Tire Grant program, will help Ohio communities and local governments to develop markets for scrap tire programs, to promote sustainable scrap tire collection drives and drop off events, and to engage in targeted clean up events.
COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), through its Scrap Tire Grant program, will help Ohio communities and local governments to develop markets for scrap tire programs, to promote sustainable scrap tire collection drives and drop off events, and to engage in targeted clean up events.
Grant recipients include:
- two civil engineering projects including roadway paving and development of an athletic complex
- two product manufacturers
- seventeen scrap tire legacy piles identified as priority sites by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency
- twelve tire amnesty programs
Ohio has begun to address its backlog of scrap tires, which can lead to health and environmental concerns statewide. ODNR’s program has successfully reduced the backlog in recent years, while benefiting projects, such as crumb rubber paving, which turns scrap tire material into useful products.
Businesses, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, municipalities, and solid waste management districts are eligible for the grants. Market development grant dollars are matched locally at 100 percent or more.
The ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention is responsible for implementing statewide waste reduction, recycling, recycling market development and litter prevention programs. The division encourages Ohioans to reduce waste, recycle materials and buy recycled-content products. For more information, visit www.ohiodnr.com/recycling.
ODNR ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
