ODNR, Division of Mineral Resources Management will hold its 4th Annual Ohio Mine Safety Competition.
CADIZ, OH — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Mineral Resources Management (DMRM) will hold its 4th Annual Ohio Mine Safety Competition at the state-of-the-art Jerry L. Stewart Mine Safety Training Center in Cadiz.

The event will feature an outdoor mine rescue exercise, an indoor darkened mine simulation activity with smoke, and new this year, a bench exercise to assess breathing equipment troubleshooting.

WHAT: 4th Annual Ohio Mine Safety Competition   

WHO: The facility will host 12 coal mine rescue teams, representing the following coal mines in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia:

                        Rosebud Mining Company (two Ohio and two PA teams)
                        Ohio Valley Coal Company
                        Hopedale Mining, LLC
                        Buckingham Coal Company
                        Alliance Coal Company (WV team)
                        Gatling Coal, LLC
                        Sterling Mining Corporation
                        American Energy Corporation                          

WHEN: Wednesday, June 22, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHERE: Jerry L. Stewart Ohio Mine Safety Training Center, 43029 Industrial Park Road, Cadiz

WHY: Mine safety competitions help develop and test the skills of mine rescue teams by using simulated mine emergency conditions, such as those found at the simulated mine at ODNR’s Mine Safety Training Center. Such training could save lives during an actual mine emergency.
