Deputy Director to serve as Acting Chief for the Division of Mineral Resources Managament
COLUMBUS, OH — Columbus resident John F. Husted retired June 30 from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Mineral Resources Management after 31 years with the department. Since 2007, Husted served as chief and was responsible for overseeing coal and industrial mineral mining and reclamation, miner safety and rescue, abandoned mine land and oil and gas production.
Husted began his public career as a reclamation inspector for ODNR in 1979. Over three decades he has held several different environmental and administrative positions with the Division of Mineral Resources Management.
“Chief Husted has served the department admirably during his 32 years of state service,” said ODNR Director David Mustine. “From strengthening Ohio's oil and gas regulations to the construction of Ohio's first mine safety training center, Husted's legacy will continue to benefit Ohio's citizens for many years."
A member of various organizations, Husted was past president of the National Association of Abandoned Mine Land Programs, which represents 26 states and native tribes. During his years on the association’s executive board, he was involved in the reauthorization of the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act, which provided for significant increases in the amount of Abandoned Mine Land federal funds distributed to states for reclaiming sites and restoring watersheds. Husted also served as a liaison with the Ohio Mine Subsidence Insurance Governing Board which oversees the Mine Subsidence Insurance Program.
Beginning July 1, ODNR Deputy Director J. Michael Biddison will serve as acting Chief for the Division of Mineral Resources.
