The Ohio Federation of Women's Club has received a grant for the purchase of preservation display cases for the Memorial Forest Shrine, Ohio’s war memorial, located in Mohican-Memorial State Forest.
COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Federation of Women's Club has received a grant for the purchase of preservation display cases for the Memorial Forest Shrine, Ohio’s war memorial, located in Mohican-Memorial State Forest, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry.
NiSource Gas Transmission & Storage’s Columbia Gas Transmission recently awarded a grant of $10,600 to the Women’s Club through the NiSource Environmental Challenge Fund.
“We are appreciative of Columbia Gas Transmission’s grant to the Ohio Federation of Women’s Club," said Robert Boyles, chief of the Ohio Division of Forestry. “The books housed in the Memorial Forest Shrine contain the names, hand-written, of many Ohioans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The new display cases will continue to protect the books and their fragile pages so that visitors can see them and honor the names within for many years to come.”
The Memorial Forest Shrine is dedicated to the memory of 20,000 Ohioans killed in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War. The new display cases will permanently house the centerpieces of the shrine, the "great books" in which the names of these individuals are inscribed. The public is cordially invited to visit, especially on this Independence Day weekend, to see the display cases, the books that they protect, and the names that should always be remembered.
Ohio grows more acres of trees than corn and soybeans combined. The ODNR Division of Forestry works to promote the wise use and sustainable management of Ohio’s public and private woodlands. To learn more about Ohio’s woodlands, visit the Division of Forestry’s web site at www.ohiodnr.com/forestry.
The ODNR ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR Web site at ohiodnr.com.
