ODNR, Division of Watercraft and Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District will jointly host an Open House to educate users and community members on two proposed lake management plans for Charles Mill Lake.
COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Watercraft and Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) will jointly host an Open House on Saturday, September 10 to educate users and community members on two proposed lake management plans for Charles Mill Lake located in Ashland and Richland counties.

The Charles Mill Lake Management Open House will be held in Ashland from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on September 10 at The Cabin Restaurant, 2106 State Route 603.

After considering public input gathered over the past year, ODNR and MWCD have developed two potential management strategies for the lake. One option is to continue with the current waterway management plan that includes maintaining a ten horsepower limit for watercraft operated on the lake. The second option would be to allow watercraft powered by more than ten horsepower to access the lake provided they only are operated at idle speed.

Unlike previous public forums, there are no plans for a formal presentation or group discussion of the proposals. The open house will give lake users and area residents an opportunity to submit written comments, ask questions and discuss lake issues with representatives from ODNR and MWCD.

Public comments and recommendations, along with public safety, recreational opportunities, regional economics and environmental factors are some of the key components considered during the development of a lake management plan.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR Web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
