Assumes new role on October 1
COLUMBUS, OH – Lanny E. Erdos has been selected to oversee the state’s Division of Mineral Resources Management by Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Interim Director Scott Zody. Erdos will begin his new position as chief of that division on October 1.
“Lanny’s 24-year career at the department has touched on every aspect of Ohio’s coal regulatory program, earning him the respect of industry and division employees alike,” said Zody. “We are confident he will accomplish great things as a responsible regulator while serving the needs of the industry.”
Erdos was the Deputy Chief for the Division of Mineral Resources Management for nearly four years. His responsibilities have included administering the Statewide Coal, Industrial Mineral, and Mine Safety Programs. Additionally, he oversaw management of inspection and enforcement, permitting, blasting, bonding, mine safety, mine safety training, and the underground and surface mining certification programs.
Prior to filling the role of Deputy Chief, he held the position of Permitting Manager, managing the Coal and Industrial Mineral permitting programs. Other positions within the division include working within the Abandoned Mineland section, developing engineering designs, and as a Mineral Resources Inspector in the Coal Regulatory Program.
Erdos has worked extensively with division stakeholders such as the U.S. EPA, Ohio EPA, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineer, and industry representatives to address emerging issues relative to environmental impacts, energy and mineral extraction and consumption, and various legislative drafts associated with the Coal Regulatory, Industrial Minerals, and Mine Safety Programs.
ODNR ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Visit the ODNR Web site at www.ohiodnr.com.
