COLUMBUS, OH – Karen Muench and Rick Barrera, two long-term employees, have been named as deputy directors within the Division of Watercraft, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
“Both employees have served in key leadership roles throughout their careers,” said Division of Watercraft chief Rodger Norcross. “We are fortunate to combine their 55 years of experience in providing continued leadership as deputy chiefs.”
Muench, of Columbus, most recently was the division’s Law Enforcement Assistant Administrator and Training Coordinator. In her new role, she will serve as deputy chief of the Law Enforcement, Field Operations, and Public Information and Education sections.
Muench began her career in the Division of Watercraft in 1988 as a state watercraft officer assigned to the former Cincinnati area office. She was promoted to the position of area supervisor of the Cincinnati office in 1999 to Columbus in 2007 to head up the law enforcement training program. In 2004, Muench was named the Division of Watercraft’s Administrator of the Year.
Barrera, of Somerset, will serve as deputy chief of the Resource Planning, Registration and Titling; Human Resources, Scenic Rivers; and Fiscal Services sections.
For the past 11 years, Barrera has served as Registration and Titling section manager. He began his career with the Division of Watercraft in 1980 as an inventory control specialist. Barrera was recognized as the Division’s Administrator of the Year in 1990 and 2010.
