Expansion plans are in the works for the current all-purpose vehicle (APV) and snowmobile trail system at Maumee State Forest in northwestern Ohio.
SWANTON, OH – Expansion plans are in the works for the current all-purpose vehicle (APV) and snowmobile trail system at Maumee State Forest in northwestern Ohio, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Forestry.
“Division of Forestry staff members have been working with Toledo Trail Riders, a local volunteer group, on the design and location of trail sections for the expansion project,” said Gregg Maxfield, northern district forest manager, ODNR Division of Forestry.
The expanded motorized APV/snowmobile trail system will total 7 miles upon completion, nearly doubling the current 4.7 miles of trail. The parking lot also will be renovated, adding an additional 16,200 square feet, providing about 16 more parking slots. The trail expansion project is expected to be completed by spring, 2012 and the parking lot by summer, 2012.
Funding for the expansion project comes from the State of Ohio Recreational Vehicle Fund and from a Yamaha OHV Access Initiative grant of $5,391.
Maumee State Forest is managed for sustainable forest growth and regeneration, including timber products, wildlife habitat, clean air and water, carbon sequestration, and recreation.
