Certificate of six professional development hours provided on completion of one-day training
SANDUSKY, OH – Registrations are now being accepted for the Lake Erie Coastal Design Training Workshop which will familiarize participants with the Ohio Coastal Design Manual First Edition and provide an opportunity to apply design guidance to an example project. The workshop is being organized by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Office of Coastal Management and the Ohio Coastal Training Program at Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve.
Engineers, surveyors and other technical professionals involved in the design and/or construction of erosion control structures along Ohio’s Lake Erie coast will receive a certificate of six Professional Development Hours upon completion of the training scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. December 7, 2011. The training is being held at the Lorain County Community College Spitzer Conference Center, 1005 North Abbe Road, Elyria.
The print and online versions of the Ohio Coastal Design Manual First Edition will be used to demonstrate how to best apply coastal engineering and surveying principles along Ohio’s coast. The manuals were released in the summer of 2011 by the Office of Coastal Management. The Ohio Coastal Design Manual can be viewed online and downloaded in its entirety, by chapter, or by design example drawing online at: www.ohiodnr.com/tabid/23074/default.aspx.
The workshop includes information on online tools and resources for coastal process and principles; coastal design fundamentals; guidance for design of seawalls and revetments; discipline specific breakout sessions; and an interactive design component. Additionally, the $35 registration fee includes continental breakfast, lunch and breaks. While the training is designed for technical professionals, property owners, public officials and others may also register to attend.
