COLUMBUS, OH – Karen Muench, of Columbus, has been named the 2011 Administrator of the Year by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Watercraft. She currently serves as deputy chief for the Division of Watercraft and is responsible for law enforcement field operations as well as public information and education sections.
Muench began her career in the Division of Watercraft in 1988 as a state watercraft officer assigned to the former Cincinnati area office. She was promoted to the position of area supervisor of the Cincinnati office in 1999 and then to Columbus in 2007 to head up the agency’s law enforcement training program. In 2004, Muench was named the Division of Watercraft’s Administrator of the Year.
Throughout the year, Muench has assisted in leading the Division’s effort to hire and train 28 watercraft officer cadets in addition to supervising training programs for the Division’s law enforcement officers. In addition to her duties as deputy chief, she also serves as acting southern region manager for the Division of Watercraft.
The ODNR Division of Watercraft administers Ohio’s boating programs. The agency oversees watercraft registration and titling operations, provides funding to local communities for education, enforcement and boating access facilities, educates the public, and enforces boating laws on Ohio’s waterways.
