COLUMBUS, OH – Forester Greg Guess was recognized as the Outstanding Individual in Government Service at the March 24 annual meeting of the Ohio Forestry Association (OFA). Guess is assistant district forester for the southern region of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' (ODNR) Division of Forestry, based in Chillicothe.
"Greg Guess is, without a doubt, a true asset to the Division of Forestry and to the forestry profession in Ohio," said Nate Jester, southern Ohio district forester for the ODNR Division of Forestry. "Greg has thorough knowledge of land management practices and effectively implements our mission of sustainable use and protection of Ohio State Forests in southern Ohio."
Guess was instrumental in developing the Best Management Practices (BMPs) for the erosion control demonstration area at Scioto Trail State Forest and serves as an instructor for logging companies. He helped develop the BMP monitoring inspection procedures for OFA and assisted in coordinating the annual site inspections for logging company compliance.
Guess began his career with ODNR in 2000 as a watershed forester specialist in NW Ohio and worked as a forester at Shawnee State Forest before his current position. Guess is a member of the Society of American Foresters, the Southern Ohio Loggers' Chapter of OFA and a member of the OFA Logging Standards Council. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry from the University of Kentucky.
Guess lives with his family in rural Pike County.
