51 full-time jobs to be created

COLUMBUS, OH – Ten projects across Ohio were awarded funding through the Market Development Grant program offered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), totaling $1.8 million. With these funds, 51 full-time jobs will be created, helping to revitalize our communities.

“It is exciting news when funding for recycling programs creates 51 new full-time jobs in the state of Ohio,” said ODNR Director James Zehringer. “When people recycle, they save energy, conserve natural resources, improve the environment and stimulate Ohio’s job economy.”

The Market Development Grants will assist in a variety of recycling programs including: construction and debris recycling, manufacturing and processing recycling, organic recycling and material recovery facilities.

Grants were awarded based on: financial need of the applicant, demonstration of positive economic and environmental impact regionally or statewide, assurances that the project will accomplish stated goals and availability of grant funds. The funding will become available on July 1.

Businesses and nonprofit groups were eligible for funding, but each group needed to be sponsored by a state agency, such as a municipal corporation, county, township, state college/university or solid waste management district/authority.

The ODNR Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention is responsible for implementing statewide waste reduction, recycling, recycling market development and litter prevention programs. All Ohioans are encouraged to reduce waste, recycle materials and buy recycled-content products. For more information, visit www.ohiodnr.com/recycling.

ODNR ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Information about ODNR programs and recreational facilities is available online at www.ohiodnr.com.
