ODNR awards funding for Community Development Grants

COLUMBUS, OH – More than $1 million will be distributed between 23 Ohio communities to design and establish projects to collect or process recyclable materials, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention.

Local groups such as counties, solid waste districts, villages and solid waste management districts, will use the money for recycling drop-offs, construction material recycling, litter collection and material recovery facility recycling in communities across the state.

“We are pleased to offer these grants to benefit local communities throughout Ohio,” said ODNR Director James Zehringer. “Recycling items such as glass, electronics, paper and more are important in keeping our state clean, and we want to be a part of the solution in partnership with local communities.”

The Community Development Grant program provides financial assistance based on financial need of the applicant, demonstration of positive economic and environment impact regionally or statewide and potential for the project to expand into a permanent service or program which does not need outside funding. Grant communities must commit local matching funds toward their project.

The ODNR Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention is responsible for implementing statewide waste reduction, recycling, recycling market development and litter prevention programs. All Ohioans are encouraged to reduce waste, recycle materials and buy recycled-content products. For more information, visit www.ohiodnr.com/recycling.

ODNR ensures a balance between wise use and protection of our natural resources for the benefit of all. Information about ODNR programs and recreational facilities is available online at www.ohiodnr.com.
