Renovations to Alum Creek State Park’s New Galena boat launch ramp area will be unveiled to the public at a dedication ceremony on Thursday, June 28 at 1 p.m.
LEWIS CENTER – Renovations to Alum Creek State Park’s New Galena boat launch ramp area will be unveiled to the public at a dedication ceremony on Thursday, June 28 at 1 p.m., according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

State and local officials will be on hand to cut the ribbon on the completed project, which involved widening the existing four-lane boat launch ramp, enlarging the courtesy dock, providing new floating docks and doubling the parking area available for cars and trailers.

There have been several parking lot improvements for this project, such as upgrading lighting and improving traffic patterns. The alterations to the traffic patterns will separate the traffic for the boat launch ramps from the parking lot. This change will benefit park users who enjoy the picnic area, multi-use trail and popular disc golf course located nearby. The improvements also bolster overall safety at the facility. Existing trees were conserved where possible, and bioretention cells were installed to hinder parking lot runoff and improve infiltration and water quality.

The project sponsors include the ODNR Division of Watercraft and the Waterway Safety Fund, which provides funding for boating-related projects throughout the state of Ohio to improve access for Ohio’s boaters.

The design for the project was developed by Hartman Engineering of Delaware, Ohio. Trucco Construction Inc., also of Delaware, served as the general contractor, and Electrical Solutions Inc. of Gahanna served as the electrical contractor.

Alum Creek State Park is located in southern Delaware County, seven miles southeast of the city of Delaware. The New Galena boat launch area is located on the southeast side of Alum Creek Reservoir at 4550 Africa Road, Lewis Center, Ohio 43035. The entrance to the New Galena area is off Africa Road, approximately 1.5 miles north of the dam.
