Every year since 1992, the Ohio Lake Erie Commission has held its “Life on Lake Erie” photo contest to celebrate life on and around Lake Erie.

Deadline extended to July 30

SANDUSKY, OH – Every year since 1992, the Ohio Lake Erie Commission has held its “Life on Lake Erie” photo contest to celebrate life on and around Lake Erie. Amateur photographers are encouraged to share in this opportunity to reveal their talent and passion for photographing the lake. Known for its valuable and dynamic natural features, Lake Erie is an abundant source of life and a tremendous recreational and economic resource for the state of Ohio.

Photographs taken only over the past year on and around Lake Erie can be submitted to the OLEC no later than July 30. Contest winners will receive beach bags filled with useful beach items promoting Ohio Healthy Beaches, which is a program run by the Ohio Department of Health with the goal of protecting and preventing illness in Ohio’s recreational waters, along with a copy of Ohio’s Lake Erie Public Access Guidebook.

Winning photographs will be displayed in an online photo gallery as well as on the OLEC Facebook page. The photographs may also be used to promote Lake Erie through environmental and educational programs and publications.

Submissions must be the original work of the photographer and can portray sustainable use, development or protection of Ohio’s Lake Erie coastal resources. They can incorporate shoreline landscapes, wildlife, plants, economic uses, or people enjoying various coastal activities. Black and white and color photographs will be accepted. Digitally altered photos will not be accepted. All submissions become the property of the OLEC.

To enter, send a 5 x 7-inch print, a CD with the electronic image file and a completed entry form to the Ohio Lake Erie Commission, 111 E. Shoreline Drive, Sandusky, Ohio 44870. Entry forms are available at http://lakeerie.ohio.gov. To submit a digital file electronically, contact the OLEC office at 419-621-2040. No more than five entries will be accepted from one household. Individuals can win up to two times.

OLEC was established for the purpose of preserving Lake Erie's natural resources, protecting the quality of its waters and ecosystem and promoting economic development in the region. The director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) serves as the commission's chairman. Additional members include the directors of the state departments of Transportation, Health, Development, Agriculture and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
