COLUMBUS, OH – On Thursday, Dec. 13, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Watercraft recognized three employees for their excellent performance this past year. These awards included: Officer of the Year, Administrator of the Year and Administrative Support Employee of the Year.

“We are proud of all of our ODNR Division of Watercraft employees. Their efforts to educate and protect those that utilize Ohio’s waters are a great benefit to all Ohioans,” said ODNR Director James Zehringer. “The three individuals that we honored have displayed exceptional dedication and serve as a great example of the quality of people that make up this fine division.”

Jeff Keller, a former Mansfield resident now residing in Bellevue, was named the 2012 Ohio Watercraft Officer of the Year. He joined the Division of Watercraft in 2010 as a state watercraft officer assigned to the Sandusky area office where he patrols Lake Erie. Keller is a former ranger with the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District and had worked as a deputy sheriff in Morrow and Richland counties. He attained his Ohio Peace Officer Training certificate in 2004.

Valerie Cox of Pataskala was honored as the 2012 Administrator of the Year by the ODNR Division of Watercraft. She currently serves as a boating education safety program coordinator. Cox joined ODNR in 2008 as a state watercraft officer and was assigned to the Springfield area office prior to a subsequent transfer to the Alum Creek area office in Delaware County. She then became a boating safety education instructor and trainer and was promoted to the position of program coordinator and assigned to the central office in Columbus.

Roxane Roth of Walbridge was recognized as the 2012 Administrative Support Employee of the Year by the ODNR Division of Watercraft. This award is presented each year in memory of former ODNR Division of Watercraft employee Ralph J. Hawse. It recognizes employees who provide excellent customer service in support of the Division’s administrative functions.

Roth serves as an administrative assistant for the Division of Watercraft’s Maumee Bay area office in Lucas County. She joined ODNR as a secretary in 1991 and was previously employed as an administrative assistant at the Toledo Botanical Garden and Toledo City Parks.

The ODNR Division of Watercraft administers Ohio’s boating programs. The agency oversees watercraft registration and titling operations, provides funding to local communities for education, enforcement and boating access facilities, educates the public, and enforces boating laws on Ohio’s waterways.
