COLUMBUS, OH - A 436-acre forested area located in Muskingum County and owned by Superior Hardwoods of Ohio, Inc. is the first woodland in the state to become permanently protected through the federal Forest Legacy Program, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry. A recognition ceremony is planned for 1 p.m. on Friday, February 22 to commend this important conservation effort.
The Forest Legacy Program provides a one-time payment for a permanent conservation easement that guarantees a woodland remains a managed and working forest. The program is funded by the U.S. D.A. Forest Service and administered in Ohio by ODNR.
