CLEVELAND RESIDENT APPOINTED TO WATERWAYS SAFETY COUNCIL

COLUMBUS - John P. Onacila Jr., of Cleveland, recently was appointed by Governor Ted Strickland to serve a five-year term on the Ohio Waterways Safety Council, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft. Onacila's appointment fills a vacancy created by the expiration of a term previously filled by Mentor resident Norm Schultz, who served 26 years on the council.

The five-member citizen advisory council, appointed by the Governor, provides input on boating issues to the Division of Watercraft.

Onacila serves on the executive committee of the National Boating Federation and last year was elected vice-president of the Boating Associations of Ohio. He also is a member of the Greater Cleveland Boating Association, Vermilion Power Squadron, Lake Erie Safe Boating Council, Inter-Lake Yachting Association, South Shore Cruising Club and Beaver Creek Boat Club. He additionally has received various boating awards and honors for his continued active role in recreational boating across the Lake Erie region.

Onacila is joined on the Waterways Safety Council by chairman J. Thomas Pascoe of Sandusky and fellow members Jack Hern of Lebanon, Ann Swain of East Sparta and Jane A. Harf of Granville.
