GALENA RESIDENT RECEIVES NATIONAL BOATING SAFETY AWARD
COLUMBUS - Galena resident Emily King, a boating safety and education program administrator for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft, was recently recognized for her work nationally in promoting boating safety education in receiving the 2008 Boating Safety Award presented by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).
First presented in 1992, the NASBLA Boating Safety Award is given to a state or local government employee who is involved in boating safety on a national level and who has demonstrated outstanding performance in any area of the program, including but not limited to education, enforcement, search and rescue, navigational aids and registration and titling. As chairman of NASBLA's Education Standards and Best Practices Subcommittee this year, King has led an effort nationally to establish uniform boating education program and testing standards.
King, who received this same award in 1998, becomes the first two-time recipient of the NASBLA Boating Safety Award.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in public education from The Ohio State University and is a graduate of Delaware Hayes High School. She joined ODNR as a state watercraft officer in 1978 and currently manages the Division of Watercraft's public information and education section.
