Volunteers Sought to Collect Valuable Weather Data
COLUMBUS, OH - Weather buffs throughout Ohio are invited to join a rapidly growing, volunteer network that monitors and reports critical weather data.
Beginning February 2, Ohioans can track and submit precipitation data to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS). The volunteer network measures and maps the information to provide accurate, high-quality data for a variety of end users, including the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
ODNR hydrologists and water managers use such meteorological reporting and research to monitor drought, heavy rainfall and precipitation patterns. Such information is also valuable to recreational boaters who want to enjoy safe boating opportunities.
Volunteers will need a 4" cylindrical rain gauge and a yardstick to measure snow depth. A short online training course is required before volunteers begin reporting.
