BOATING SAFETY EDUCATION GRANTS AVAILABLE THROUGH ODNR
Deadline for submitting applications is October 26

COLUMBUS – Local communities and nonprofit organizations can apply for 2008 boating safety education program grants through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft. The deadline for submitting applications is October 26.

Application forms and grant program information are available online at ohiodnr.com and by calling the Division of Watercraft at 614-265-6674.

“These grants play an important role in helping to expand, maintain and promote boating safety education programs for the estimated 3 million Ohioans who enjoy boating each year,” said Pamela S. Dillon, chief of the ODNR Division of Watercraft.

Grants range from $1,000 to $30,000 and are awarded yearly on a cost-share basis with the applicant matching at least 25 percent of the total program cost.

Earlier this year, more than $364,000 in boating safety education grants were awarded to 33 nonprofit community organizations statewide. The grants are funded through the Ohio Waterways Safety Fund, which consists of a share in the state motor fuels tax, watercraft registration and titling fees and funding from the U.S. Coast Guard.
