Mine Safety Rules Finalized

Six mine safety rules were Final Filed with the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR) on November 7, 2012; they become effective November 17, 2012.

Four of these rules are new rules created as required by Senate Bill 323, effective June 11, 2008. One rule was amended as required by the State's five-year rule review process. (Rule-making agencies, such as ODNR, are required by law to fully review their rules within the Ohio Administrative Code every five years. Among other things, this "housekeeping" process is to ensure that the rules do not conflict with what is written in Ohio Law.)  The sixth rule updates the Incorporation by reference rule.

Prior to being filed with JCARR, these rules were submitted to the Common Sense Initiative Office (CSI). The CSI did not recommend any changes to the rules. View the CSI's recommendation and the Division's response below, along with the CSI Business Impact Analyses.
For more detailed information about the JCARR filing, view the rules as filed with JCARR available on the Register of Ohio website. Search by Public Hearing Date of October 2, 2012.
