COLUMBUS, OH -- Surveys conducted at Ohio State Parks over the past year indicate that 94 percent of visitors rated their visit as enjoyable, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
Since 1992, ODNR has conducted the "Write Right To the Chief" survey, encouraging park users to complete pre-printed rating cards and mail them directly to the department's chief of Ohio State Parks. Feedback from the "Write Right" response cards allows park managers to make continuous improvements throughout the recreational season and during the off season.
"This past season marked the ninth time ODNR has conducted the 'Write Right' survey, and each year our parks customers appear more satisfied with their visits," said Ohio State Parks Chief Dan West. "We are committed to providing quality customer service and these surveys help us keep that pledge."
Survey cards allow users to assess their visits in 21 categories including general cleanliness, safety and security, quality of programs and employee helpfulness. Space is also provided for candid comments about park facilities and services. Responses are rated on a five-point scale ranging from excellent (5.0) to unacceptable (1.0).
ODNR received 17,543 survey cards during the 2000 recreational season, running from May 1 to October 31. Sixty-five percent of visitors rated their overall visit as excellent. Another 29 percent rated their visit as good. On a scale from one to five (with five being the highest possible rating), the average visitor's overall experience rating was 4.576.
Ohio has 73 state parks with 57 campgrounds and 9,048 campsites; more than 500 overnight cottages; and eight resort lodges. Reservation information is available at individual park offices or through 1-800-AT-A-PARK for all lodges and cottages except those at Deer Creek State Park. Deer Creek reservations are available at 1-877-678-3337. Campsites are available on a first come, first served basis.
