GOVERNOR TAFT ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $560,000 IN MARINE PATROL GRANTS FOR GREATER SAFETY ON OHIO'S WATERWAYS

COLUMBUS, OH -- Governor Bob Taft today announced $560,000 in Marine Patrol Grants to 28 Ohio law enforcement agencies.

The grants will help local marine patrol units intensify their boating safety and enforcement efforts on the state's waterways, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), which administers the program.

“These Marine Patrol Grants will lead to increased law enforcement presence on Ohio's lakes, rivers and streams,” Taft said. “Local waterway enforcement programs are vital in providing safe boating and recreational opportunities for everyone.”

Funding for the Marine Patrol Grants comes from the Ohio Waterways Safety Fund, which is primarily supported by boat registrations and a portion of the state motor fuel tax. A minimum 25 percent local match is required of grant recipients.
