CLIFTON GORGE STATE NATURE PRESERVE TO HOST WILDFLOWER HIKES
April 24 event kicks off new Natural Areas Discovery Series

COLUMBUS, OH - You'll see it all from the trails of Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve - colorful wildflowers, scenic river views and unique geologic formations. All of these natural wonders make Clifton Gorge a fitting location to begin the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) new nature program, the Natural Areas Discovery Series.

The Greene County preserve will host "Wildflower Wonderland" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 24, offering guided hikes beginning at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The 10 a.m. hike starts at the Bear's Den, located in the preserve. The afternoon hikes begin at the Orton Parking Lot, located in the adjacent John Bryan State Park. Preserve staff will interpret the area's natural and cultural history for participants. Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve is a wonderful place to experience spring's presence. Wildflower species, including hepatica, Virginia bluebell, shooting star, wild ginger and wild columbine, can be observed from the preserve's trail system.

As the trails at Clifton Gorge wind along the Little Miami State & National Scenic River, hikers are surrounded by one of the state's most spectacular gorges.

The Natural Areas Discovery Series features scheduled hikes and interpretive activities with preserve and scenic river staff. The monthly programs will run from April through October at state nature preserves across Ohio and are free and open to the public. The ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves sponsors the series.
