COLUMBUS, OH - The contributions of hundreds of volunteers to boating safety and education in Ohio will be recognized statewide by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) during National Volunteer Week, April 18-24.
"We applaud the boating safety efforts of Ohioans who have volunteered their time and expertise in providing for a safe recreational boating environment," said Ken Alvey, chief of the ODNR Division of Watercraft.
Last year, 99 Ohio volunteers donated 1,406 hours in support of boating education and other boating programs that are administered by the ODNR Division of Watercraft. Among the 25 volunteers who received special recognition last November during Confluence 2003 held at Maumee Bay State Park were:
- Thomas Martin of Springfield (1,250 Hour Award),
- Cecilia Duer of Mentor-on-the-Lake (500 Hour Award) and
