WILDLIFE EDUCATION COORDINATOR RECEIVES
STATE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AWARD
COLUMBUS, OH The Environmental Education Council of Ohio has awarded Jen Dennison, wildlife education coordinator for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife, with its “Christy Dixon Award.” The award is given each year to a young professional who the Council believes has contributed significantly to environmental education in Ohio.
Dennison, a 10-year employee of the Division of Wildlife, was described in her award nomination as “a terrific workshop leader, extremely knowledgeable, and a great resource on a vast number of wildlife-related topics.”
Among her many responsibilities with the Division, Dennison serves as coordinator of Project WILD, a supplemental curriculum that uses wildlife to teach basic classroom concepts. Dennison hosts educator workshops throughout the year, and develops and conducts an annual training class for volunteers learning how to facilitate Project WILD workshops on their own.
Dennison recently took on the task of helping correlate Project WILD, as well as other ODNR environmental curricula, to state Academic Content Standards for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Additionally, she assisted with the creation of a searchable Web site for educators to view these curriculum correlations.
Dennison also serves as an informational resource on wildlife topics for environmental educators throughout Ohio. She coordinates the popular “Becoming an Outdoors-Woman” program, while also directing a team of Division of Wildlife education specialists. She maintains a strong volunteer educator network of more than 250 active facilitators.
Dennison graduated from Kettering Fairmont High School in Montgomery County and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from The Ohio State University in Environmental Education. She and her husband, Denny, reside in London, Ohio.
