SPRING WILDFLOWER HIKE SET FOR SATURDAY, APRIL 14
AT CLIFTON GORGE STATE NATURE PRESERVE
COLUMBUS, OH - You’ll see colorful wildflowers, scenic river views and unique geologic formations from the trails of Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve in Greene County during the annual spring hike.
The hike, set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, is part of the Natural Areas Discovery Series, free outdoor educational programs held between April and October each year.
From the preserve’s trail system, visitors will see dozens of wildflower species including hepatica, Virginia bluebell, shooting star, wild ginger and wild columbine.
The Little Miami State and National Scenic River cuts through a deep canyon through the preserve. Hiking along the river, visitors will be surrounded by one of the state’s most spectacular limestone/dolomite gorges.
The 1 p.m. hike begins at the Bear’s Den, located in the preserve. Staff members will be on hand to interpret the area’s natural and cultural history for visitors.
Sponsored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Natural Areas & Preserves, the Natural Areas Discovery Series features scheduled hikes, interpretive activities and canoe floats.
The next event will be held Saturday, May 5 at Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve in Erie County.
