HOCKING HILLS STATE PARK RECEIVES
“CUTTING EDGE AWARD” FOR INNOVATION AND INGENUITY
COLUMBUS, OH - Hocking Hills State Park in southeast Ohio was recently recognized for its innovative approach to programs and development with the “Cutting Edge” Award from the state park system.
Park employees Chris Grupenhof and Tim Archer accepted the award from Ohio State Parks Chief Dan West during the group’s annual meeting on April 10. Among the achievements noted for Hocking Hills State Park last year were hosting the park system’s first Maintenance Trades Academy; remodeling an old go-cart track into a handicapped accessible trail; constructing a helipad for emergency evacuation and other uses; helping to develop the Hocking Valley Birding Trail; and promoting Hocking Hills Volunteer Vacation nature tourism.
“The staff at Hocking Hills finds unusual and innovative ways to solve the problems they encounter,” West said in presenting the award. “They truly typify the zeal and enthusiasm so characteristic of our park system.”
Ohio’s state park system includes nine resort lodges, more than 500 cottages and 56 family campgrounds with more than 9,000 campsites.
